Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $78,262,563, up 20.37% ($13,241,750) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $41,811,757, up 59.27% ($15,560,052) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $36,450,806, down 5.98% ($2,318,302) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Kenya went from a deficit of $12,517,403 in the 2nd quarter of 2016, to a surplus of $5,360,951 in the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Kenya was Russia’s 90th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 86th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0560% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0597% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Kenya was Russia’s 89th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 90th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0498% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0395% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Kenya was Russia’s 75th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 71st in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0653% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0915% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 44.05% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (29.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 29.27% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (40.82% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 18.37% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (9.91% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.45% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (12.12% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $5,172,136;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $4,514,860;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $549,177;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $215,735;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $163,851.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,971,312;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,156,662;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $882,368;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $368,433;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $151,926.

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $3,251,071;
