Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Malaysia totaled $531,295,199, up 3.42% ($17,562,033) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $197,137,187, down 21.55% ($54,158,663) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $334,158,012, up 27.33% ($71,720,696) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $137,020,825, a 1,129.83% increase ($125,879,359) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Malaysia was Russia’s 44th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 39th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3802% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4720% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Malaysia was Russia’s 50th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 43rd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2348% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3782% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Malaysia was Russia’s 32nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 31st in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.5990% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.6191% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 51.77% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (68.84% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 38.32% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (10.75% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.54% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (12.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.35% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (5.04% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.88% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);

  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $4,424,684;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,056,309;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $723,089.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $70,936,406;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $14,895,587;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $13,353,347;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $8,997,858;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $1,243,955.
