Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $88,195,658, down 9.46% ($9,211,338) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $82,073,804, down 12.45% ($11,672,585) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $6,121,854, up 67.24% ($2,461,247) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $75,951,950, a 15.69% decrease ($14,133,832) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Nigeria was Russia’s 89th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 78th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0631% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0895% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 74th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 65th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0977% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1411% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Nigeria was Russia’s 101st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 105th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0110% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0086% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 60.38% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (82.86% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 17.43% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (4.46% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.81% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (3.50% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.75% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (6.98% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.11% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $10,123,378;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $2,255,704;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $693,631;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $284,270;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - an increase of $262,049.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $26,248,502;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $2,921,078;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $1,862,172;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $1,196,955;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $652,105;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $612,733;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $377,297.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.11% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (81.48% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.71% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (17.60% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $3,067,504;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $62,903.
