Russia’s Trade with Sweden

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Sweden totaled $882,597,719, up 7.25% ($59,668,954) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $307,350,878, down 24.05% ($97,349,186) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $575,246,841, up 37.54% ($157,018,140) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $267,895,963, a 1,880.21% increase ($254,367,326) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Sweden was Russia’s 32nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 26th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6315% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.7561% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Sweden was Russia’s 43rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 34th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3660% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.6091% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Sweden was Russia’s 22nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 24th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.0312% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.9866% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Sweden

The major share of Russian exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 61.92% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (66.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 23.58% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (23.69% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.87% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (3.17% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.21% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.18% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.53% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (2.18% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.55% of Russia’s total exports to Sweden (0.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $1,868,869;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,067,904;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $945,369.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sweden in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $79,140,719;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $11,598,395;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $10,550,787;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $1,518,616;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,124,214.
