Russia’s Trade with Ukraine

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Ukraine totaled $3,372,506,901, up 30.33% ($784,759,950) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $2,094,643,303, up 30.44% ($488,765,875) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2018 totaled $1,277,863,598, up 30.15% ($295,994,075) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $816,779,705, a 30.89% increase ($192,771,800) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Ukraine was Russia’s 15th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 2.1395% of Russia’s total trade (up from 2.0130% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Ukraine was Russia’s 15th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 17th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 2.0332% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.9270% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Ukraine was Russia’s 9th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (up from 10th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 2.3400% of Russia’s total imports (up from 2.1715% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Ukraine

The major share of Russian exports to Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 46.96% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (38.25% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.46% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (29.20% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.29% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (8.01% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.17% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (9.74% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.41% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (7.32% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
