Russia’s Trade with China

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with China totaled $25,829,264,366, up 29.61% ($5,901,424,830) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $13,671,667,616, up 48.04% ($4,436,475,725) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from China in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $12,157,596,750, up 13.70% ($1,464,949,105) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with China went from a deficit of $1,457,455,754 in the 2nd quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $1,514,070,866 in the 2nd quarter of 2018.

China was Russia’s largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 15.1126% of Russia’s total trade (up from 14.2589% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

China was Russia’s largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 12.4058% of Russia’s total exports (up from 10.9979% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

China was Russia’s largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 20.0263% of Russia’s total imports (up from 19.1677% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to China

The major share of Russian exports to China in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 73.22% of Russia’s total exports to China (68.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.60% of Russia’s total exports to China (11.78% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.19% of Russia’s total exports to China (5.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.05% of Russia’s total exports to China (3.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.52% of Russia’s total exports to China (4.71% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.46% of Russia’s total exports to China (0.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).
