Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Mexico totaled $729,510,647, up 15.38% ($97,230,266) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $530,316,978, up 36.59% ($142,049,793) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $199,193,669, down 18.37% ($44,819,527) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $331,123,309, a 129.54% increase ($186,869,320) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Mexico was Russia’s 40th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.4268% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4524% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Mexico was Russia’s 41st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 40th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.4812% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4624% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Mexico was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 40th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3281% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4374% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 71.58% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (72.76% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.42% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (21.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.99% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (2.86% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.30% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (0.34% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.31% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $6,684,777;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $4,127,566;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,948,051.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $24,070,792;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $5,519,677;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $2,652,593.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.85% of Russia’s total imports from Mexico (5.41% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
