Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $243,773,203, up 176.40% ($155,577,545) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $233,380,948, up 184.35% ($151,307,144) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $10,392,255, up 69.76% ($4,270,401) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $222,988,693, a 193.59% increase ($147,036,743) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Nigeria was Russia’s 72nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 89th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1426% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0631% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 57th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 74th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2118% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0977% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 95th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 101st in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0171% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0110% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 50.04% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (60.38% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 19.66% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (17.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.94% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (4.75% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.57% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (2.11% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.21% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (4.81% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);

  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,060,197;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $980,277;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $726,600.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $2,255,704;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,772,738.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 95.36% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (99.11% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.57% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.71% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $3,731,300;
