Russia’s Trade with Zimbabwe

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Zimbabwe was $9,480,082, down 34.46% ($4,984,100) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $679,234, up 229.79% ($473,277) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $8,800,848, down 38.28% ($5,457,377) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $8,121,614, a 42.20% decrease ($5,930,654) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 136th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 124th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0055% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0103% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 164th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 166th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0006% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0002% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 98th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 91st in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0145% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0256% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian exports to Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 99.85% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (19.95% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.07% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (8.80% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $73,926;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $2,216.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $146,750;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $14,837;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $3,006;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $2,782.

The major share of Russian imports from Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.58% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (99.93% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $454,662.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $5,659,816;
