Russia’s Trade with Syria

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Syria totaled $76,533,651, up 32.85% ($18,922,676) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $76,335,424, up 34.38% ($19,528,219) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $198,227, down 75.34% ($605,543) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $76,137,197, a 35.95% increase ($20,133,762) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Syria was Russia’s 90th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 95th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0445% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0394% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Syria was Russia’s 82nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 83rd in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0680% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0666% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Syria was Russia’s 142nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 132nd in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0003% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0013% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 20.53% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (40.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.02% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (0.98% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.20% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (3.71% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.15% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (10.59% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $3,164,148;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $1,972,234;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $448,248;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $387,131;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Syria in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $5,222,625;

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $862,095;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $532,852.
