Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $1,460,176,096, down 1.45% ($21,470,989) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $820,037,789, up 32.63% ($201,732,685) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $640,138,307, down 25.85% ($223,203,674) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Brazil went from a deficit of $245,036,877 in the 4th quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $179,899,482 in the 4th quarter of 2018.

Brazil was Russia’s 27th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 23rd in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.7815% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.8864% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Brazil was Russia’s 34th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 35th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.6587% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.6011% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Brazil was Russia’s 21st largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 20th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 1.0268% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.3431% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 82.15% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (77.67% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 14.45% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (18.07% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.54% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.72% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.32% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.05% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $185,800,462;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $8,552,024;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $6,534,877;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $3,547,015.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $3,597,520;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $2,966,282.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 56.94% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (69.08% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 29.01% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (15.21% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.38% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (4.22% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.96% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (2.32% in the 4th quarter of 2017).
