Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Chile was $296,014,784, down 0.89% ($2,665,558) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $28,018,694, up 9.20% ($2,360,901) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $267,996,090, down 1.84% ($5,026,459) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 4th quarter of 2018 was $239,977,396, a 2.99% decrease ($7,387,360) over the 4th quarter of 2017.

Chile was Russia’s 66th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 64th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1584% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1787% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Chile was Russia’s 102nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 103rd in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0225% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0249% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Chile was Russia’s 36th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 39th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.4299% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.4247% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 37.66% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (28.50% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 26.70% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (31.96% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 21.70% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (13.93% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.05% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (18.20% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.19% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (3.77% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.88% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (1.64% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $3,240,472;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,319,864;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $573,058;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $353,936;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $316,205;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $232,024;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $188,896;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $132,419;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $129,398;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $128,498.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,946,186;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,675,894;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $630,625;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $395,255;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $286,388;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - a decrease of $219,757;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $136,055.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.34% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (5.55% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.55% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (12.82% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
