Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Kenya was $72,707,242, down 10.29% ($8,342,513) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $53,034,853, up 3.03% ($1,558,980) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $19,672,389, down 33.48% ($9,901,493) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kenya in the 4th quarter of 2018 was $33,362,464, a 52.33% increase ($11,460,473) over the 4th quarter of 2017.

Kenya was Russia’s 95th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 89th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0389% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0485% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 88th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 86th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0426% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0500% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 91st largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 81st in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0316% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0460% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 77.72% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (79.38% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 11.03% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (4.82% in the 4th quarter of 2017);

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $519,588;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $467,145;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $354,996;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $276,386;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $197,441.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $223,241;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $80,500.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:
