Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $187,955,325, up 43.55% ($57,020,054) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $177,077,524, up 46.00% ($55,795,604) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $10,877,801, up 12.68% ($1,224,450) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2018 was $166,199,723, a 48.89% increase ($54,571,154) over the 4th quarter of 2017.

Nigeria was Russia’s 78th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 82nd in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1006% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0783% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 69th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 70th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1422% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1179% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Nigeria was Russia’s 98th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 97th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0174% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0150% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 61.84% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (75.10% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 22.78% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (13.43% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.65% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (8.48% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.66% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.29% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.96% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.64% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $24,055,013;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $18,176,164;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $10,019,218;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $3,148,996;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $915,676.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.29% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (97.52% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.63% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (2.48% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $1,318,058.
