Russia’s Trade with Tanzania

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Tanzania was $47,146,077, down 4.93% ($2,446,268) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $42,248,403, down 4.47% ($1,975,173) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $4,897,674, down 8.77% ($471,095) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tanzania in the 4th quarter of 2018 was $37,350,729, a 3.87% decrease ($1,504,078) over the 4th quarter of 2017.

Tanzania was Russia’s 108th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 100th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0252% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0297% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Tanzania was Russia’s 92nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 90th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0339% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0430% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Tanzania was Russia’s 112th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 104th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0079% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0084% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Tanzania

The major share of Russian exports to Tanzania in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 69.87% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (88.46% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.34% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (4.67% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.95% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (0.08% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.77% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (2.44% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.07% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (4.23% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $7,322,194;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,909,333;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $1,554,212.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $10,906,720;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $1,500,479;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $338,260;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $301,030;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $192,341;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $181,540;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $148,111.

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $40,260.
