Russia’s Trade with Zimbabwe

In the 4th quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Zimbabwe totaled $14,759,251, up 6.60% ($913,619) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 4th quarter of 2018 totaled $8,172,805, up 687.02% ($7,134,353) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 4th quarter of 2018 were $6,586,446, down 48.57% ($6,220,734) from the 4th quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with Zimbabwe went from a deficit of $11,768,728 in the 4th quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $1,586,359 in the 4th quarter of 2018.

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 135th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 128th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0079% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0083% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 129th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2018 (up from 155th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0066% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0010% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

Zimbabwe was Russia’s 102nd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2018 (down from 95th in the 4th quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0106% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0199% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The major share of Russian exports to Zimbabwe in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 64.99% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (0.00% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 34.34% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (24.30% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.67% of Russia’s total exports to Zimbabwe (1.98% in the 4th quarter of 2017);

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,551,189;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $52,355.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Zimbabwe in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $765,292.

Russia’s Imports from Zimbabwe

The major share of Russian imports from Zimbabwe in the 4th quarter of 2018 (and in the 4th quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.85% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (98.17% in the 4th quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 0.50% of Russia’s total imports from Zimbabwe (1.81% in the 4th quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $248,684;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - an increase of $42,730.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Zimbabwe in the 4th quarter of 2018 over the 4th quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:
