Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Argentina totaled $223,224,796, up 35.89% ($58,956,158) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $52,806,218, up 78.52% ($23,226,705) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $170,418,578, up 26.53% ($35,729,453) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $117,612,360, a 11.89% increase ($12,502,748) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Argentina was Russia’s 68th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 73rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1418% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1042% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Argentina was Russia’s 84th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 93rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0506% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0287% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Argentina was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 50th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3213% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2466% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 78.56% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (53.18% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.27% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (27.76% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.41% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (7.38% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.17% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (4.30% in the 1st quarter of 2018);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $884,831;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $698,979;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $260,392;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - a decrease of $204,699;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $169,407;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $159,762.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:
