Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $896,997,552, down 17.04% ($184,305,652) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $434,248,450, down 12.25% ($60,649,418) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $462,749,102, down 21.09% ($123,656,234) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $28,500,652, a 68.85% decrease ($63,006,816) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Brazil was Russia’s 36th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 33rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.5698% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.6860% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Brazil was Russia’s 41st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 38th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4160% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4804% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Brazil was Russia’s 26th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 22nd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.8724% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.0738% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 79.77% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (69.52% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 15.50% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (25.18% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.41% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.79% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.54% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (2.08% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $5,442,976;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,172,685;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,171,768;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $1,415,345.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $47,985,932;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $9,341,188;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $8,593,404;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $4,037,124;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $2,322,082;

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.91% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (11.71% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.27% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (16.43% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.91% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (5.18% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
