Russia’s Trade with Canada

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Canada totaled $357,389,956, up 34.32% ($91,323,710) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $209,843,422, up 117.66% ($113,434,422) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Canada in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $147,546,534, down 13.03% ($22,110,712) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Canada went from a deficit of $73,248,246 in the 1st quarter of 2018, to a surplus of $62,296,888 in the 1st quarter of 2019.

Canada was Russia’s 59th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2270% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1688% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Canada was Russia’s 57th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 71st in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2010% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0936% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Canada was Russia’s 51st largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 46th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2782% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3107% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 69.15% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (26.97% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.49% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (39.48% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.56% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (10.24% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.82% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (6.56% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.79% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (6.80% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
