Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Chile was $210,979,891, down 14.76% ($36,524,682) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $17,273,482, down 25.11% ($5,792,892) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $193,706,409, down 13.69% ($30,731,790) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $176,432,927, a 12.38% decrease ($24,938,898) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Chile was Russia’s 69th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 66th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1340% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1570% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Chile was Russia’s 107th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 101st in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0165% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0224% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Chile was Russia’s 42nd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 38th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3652% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4110% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 45.29% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (38.08% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 27.97% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (34.93% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.47% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (14.12% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.23% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (6.56% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.82% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (2.15% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.68% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (1.61% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,136,609;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $403,254;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $229,464.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $3,225,242;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,887,588;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $914,637;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $517,395;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $210,417;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - a decrease of $196,946;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $179,564;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $159,708;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $146,527;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $126,219;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $56,410.

Russia’s Imports from Chile

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 84.48% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (72.19% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 7.90% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (22.99% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.01% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.48% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (4.21% in the 1st quarter of 2018);

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Chile in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $36,261,393;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $8,291,830;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $4,725,638;
  • Products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 05) - a decrease of $2,669,828;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $1,183,040.
