Russia’s Trade with Mexico

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Mexico was $661,722,813, down 0.18% ($1,200,951) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $452,398,764, down 1.83% ($8,411,131) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $209,324,049, up 3.57% ($7,210,180) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $243,074,715, a 6.04% decrease ($15,621,311) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Mexico was Russia’s 41st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 42nd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4203% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4205% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Mexico was Russia’s 39th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 40th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4334% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.4473% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Mexico was Russia’s 39th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 42nd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3946% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3701% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Mexico

The major share of Russian exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 74.67% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (78.00% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 11.22% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (0.94% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.63% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (7.83% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.76% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (10.83% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.92% of Russia’s total exports to Mexico (1.51% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $46,396,884;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,569,297;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,511,923;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,358,838.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Mexico in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $37,611,121;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $17,050,144;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $5,495,288.
