Russia’s Trade with Nicaragua

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Nicaragua totaled $13,531,033, up 121.09% ($7,410,961) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $11,526,047, up 1,096.18% ($10,562,478) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $2,004,986, down 61.12% ($3,151,517) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Nicaragua went from a deficit of $4,192,934 in the 1st quarter of 2018, to a surplus of $9,521,061 in the 1st quarter of 2019.

Nicaragua was Russia’s 128th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 140th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0086% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0039% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 113th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 152nd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0110% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0009% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Nicaragua was Russia’s 116th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 103rd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0038% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0094% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The major share of Russian exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $466,795.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $309,227;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $37,204.

Russia’s Imports from Nicaragua

The major share of Russian imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 91.64% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (97.97% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 7.83% of Russia’s total imports from Nicaragua (1.90% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nicaragua in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $422,638;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $66,464.
