Russia’s Trade with Saudi Arabia
In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $420,413,790, up 101.33% ($211,594,097) from the 1st quarter of 2018.
Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $362,122,835, up 146.77% ($215,378,844) from the 1st quarter of 2018.
Russia’s imports from Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2019 were $58,290,955, down 6.10% ($3,784,747) from the 1st quarter of 2018.
Russia’s trade surplus with Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $303,831,880, a 258.85% increase ($219,163,591) over the 1st quarter of 2018.
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 53rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 67th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2671% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1325% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 46th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 64th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3469% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1424% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
Saudi Arabia was Russia’s 68th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 67th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1099% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1137% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
Russia’s Exports to Saudi Arabia
The major share of Russian exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 39.15% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (0.99% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.86% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (43.95% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.89% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (11.84% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.29% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (6.43% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.23% of Russia’s total exports to Saudi Arabia (4.95% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

- Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $14,461,043;
- Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $6,551,250;
- Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $6,386,980;
- Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $2,014,069;
- Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $1,238,920.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Saudi Arabia in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
