Russia’s Trade with Uruguay

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Uruguay totaled $52,066,971, up 32.76% ($12,847,327) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $7,500,971, up 187.47% ($4,891,654) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $44,566,000, up 21.73% ($7,955,673) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $37,065,029, a 9.01% increase ($3,064,019) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Uruguay was Russia’s 96th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 102nd in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0331% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0249% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Uruguay was Russia’s 123rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 137th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0072% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0025% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Uruguay was Russia’s 75th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 78th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0840% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0670% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Uruguay

The major share of Russian exports to Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 79.58% of Russia’s total exports to Uruguay (53.04% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.05% of Russia’s total exports to Uruguay (36.21% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.15% of Russia’s total exports to Uruguay (1.54% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.20% of Russia’s total exports to Uruguay (1.45% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.55% of Russia’s total exports to Uruguay (7.00% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $3,888,190;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $647,325;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $454,412;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $202,594;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $160,020;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $39,945.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $420,592;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $48,825;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $32,513.

Russia’s Imports from Uruguay

The major share of Russian imports from Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 96.88% of Russia’s total imports from Uruguay (94.57% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.86% of Russia’s total imports from Uruguay (5.23% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.23% of Russia’s total imports from Uruguay (0.07% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Uruguay in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $13,600,788;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1,031,626;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $545,690.
