Russia’s Trade with Portugal

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Portugal totaled $445,271,601, up 47.33% ($143,053,194) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $324,948,777, up 80.02% ($144,441,176) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $120,322,824, down 1.14% ($1,387,982) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $204,625,953, a 248.02% increase ($145,829,158) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Portugal was Russia’s 52nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 64th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2781% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1768% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Portugal was Russia’s 47th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 64th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3225% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1638% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Portugal was Russia’s 58th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2028% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2005% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Portugal

The major share of Russian exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 90.45% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (54.44% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.94% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (30.35% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.02% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (5.29% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.74% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (4.76% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.51% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (4.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $195,846,213.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $38,729,594;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $4,075,798;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $2,503,942;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $1,400,446.

Russia’s Imports from Portugal

The major share of Russian imports from Portugal in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 24.08% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (27.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 23.04% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (25.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.64% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (14.29% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 14.15% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (12.55% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 11.71% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (9.90% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $835,996;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $779,847;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $686,477;
