Russia’s Trade with Romania

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Romania totaled $1,231,340,331, up 12.87% ($140,434,197) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Romania in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $864,461,894, up 26.11% ($178,962,830) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Romania in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $366,878,437, down 9.50% ($38,528,633) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Romania in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $497,583,457, a 77.65% increase ($217,491,463) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Romania was Russia’s 28th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 33rd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.7692% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.6383% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Romania was Russia’s 26th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 34th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.8579% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.6220% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Romania was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 29th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.6184% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.6678% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Romania

The major share of Russian exports to Romania in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 78.85% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (75.03% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.37% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (10.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.03% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (4.98% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.52% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (3.45% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.45% of Russia’s total exports to Romania (3.47% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $161,851,262;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $18,464,993;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $3,912,581;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $2,829,702.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Romania in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $4,035,355;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $3,386,401;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $3,109,120.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 21.91% of Russia’s total imports from Romania (19.25% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 5.95% of Russia’s total imports from Romania (6.15% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
