Russia’s Trade with Syria

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Syria was $36,390,255, down 79.43% ($140,505,483) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $35,984,903, down 79.52% ($139,720,122) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $405,352, down 65.96% ($785,361) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $35,579,551, a 79.61% decrease ($138,934,761) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Syria was Russia’s 102nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 76th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0227% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1035% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Syria was Russia’s 91st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 66th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0357% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1594% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Syria

The major share of Russian exports to Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 34.73% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (8.29% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 11.12% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (7.82% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.55% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (0.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.98% of Russia’s total exports to Syria (7.75% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Syria in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,348,216;
