Russia’s Trade with Abkhazia

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Abkhazia totaled $87,568,967, up 21.89% ($15,727,107) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $68,874,747, up 27.03% ($14,656,151) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $18,694,220, up 6.08% ($1,070,956) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $50,180,527, a 37.12% increase ($13,585,195) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Abkhazia was Russia’s 88th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 92nd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0528% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0418% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Abkhazia was Russia’s 84th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 89th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0667% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0483% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Abkhazia was Russia’s 89th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 92nd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0299% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0294% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Abkhazia

The major share of Russian exports to Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 34.56% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (28.74% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 27.31% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (31.92% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.08% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (11.79% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.96% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (10.80% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.66% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (4.99% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);

  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - an increase of $529,158;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $511,120;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $356,199;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $301,167;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $282,567;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $281,622;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $255,946;
  • Miscellaneous manufactured articles (HS code 96) - an increase of $251,872;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $207,529.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Abkhazia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - a decrease of $706,429;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $582,411;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $294,245;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $277,120;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $276,779.
