Russia’s Trade with Algeria

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Algeria was $288,745,262, down 72.66% ($767,454,007) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $287,259,852, down 72.78% ($768,121,852) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $1,485,410, up 81.69% ($667,845) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Algeria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $285,774,442, a 72.90% decrease ($768,789,697) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Algeria was Russia’s 65th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 35th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1741% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.6138% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Algeria was Russia’s 50th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 27th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2780% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.9407% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Algeria was Russia’s 128th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 130th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0024% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0014% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Algeria

The major share of Russian exports to Algeria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 45.00% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (4.65% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 40.22% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (60.34% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.49% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (3.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.44% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (0.83% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.77% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (1.95% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $9,476,848;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $1,240,137;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $1,092,114.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $470,548,326;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $24,624,610;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $20,133,151;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $18,235,889;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $9,604,442;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $5,365,802;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $5,301,924;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $4,897,646;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $2,532,563;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $1,592,900;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $1,033,609.

Russia’s Imports from Algeria

The major share of Russian imports from Algeria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 65.32% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (72.78% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 34.59% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (27.19% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $498,383;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $291,317;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $217,404.

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $272,000;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $39,482;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $29,027.
