Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Chile was $280,304,310, down 7.52% ($22,784,656) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $34,968,419, down 32.02% ($16,473,025) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $245,335,891, down 2.51% ($6,311,631) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $210,367,472, a 5.08% increase ($10,161,394) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Chile was Russia’s 67th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 64th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1690% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1761% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Chile was Russia’s 96th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 91st in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0338% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0458% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Chile was Russia’s 41st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 38th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3922% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4203% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 52.54% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (66.54% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 32.91% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (17.11% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.64% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (10.89% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.81% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (2.58% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.19% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (0.60% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.07% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (1.95% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $3,659,356;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $378,961;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $339,521;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $253,884;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $155,545;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $136,489.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $15,855,754;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,635,631;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,282,787;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $790,059;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $742,539;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $566,063;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $338,117;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $180,911;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $154,487.

Russia’s Imports from Chile

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 71.04% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (87.23% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.25% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (6.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.43% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (5.12% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.26% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (0.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
