Russia’s Trade with Cuba
In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Cuba was $66,963,434, down 27.20% ($25,019,846) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.
Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $64,091,002, down 25.78% ($22,260,020) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.
Russia’s imports from Cuba in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $2,872,432, down 49.00% ($2,759,826) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.
Russia’s trade surplus with Cuba in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $61,218,570, a 24.16% decrease ($19,500,194) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.
Cuba was Russia’s 96th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 85th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0404% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0535% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
Cuba was Russia’s 86th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 80th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0620% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0770% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
Cuba was Russia’s 118th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 103rd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0046% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0094% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
Russia’s Exports to Cuba
The major share of Russian exports to Cuba in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 54.36% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (57.06% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 26.06% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (25.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.90% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (12.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.22% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (1.75% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.03% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (1.51% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.61% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (0.94% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,672,913;
- Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $1,491,901;
- Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,311,327;
- Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $916,598;
- Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $711,322;
- Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $542,907;
- Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $272,263.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Cuba in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

- Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $941,193;
- Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $573,143;
- Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $542,686;
