Russia’s Trade with France

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with France was $3,479,567,389, down 14.17% ($574,409,084) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $1,418,234,885, down 24.86% ($469,272,157) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from France in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $2,061,332,504, down 4.85% ($105,136,927) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with France in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $643,097,619, a 130.53% increase ($364,135,230) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

France was Russia’s 14th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 12th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 2.0978% of Russia’s total trade (down from 2.3560% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

France was Russia’s 15th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 16th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.3726% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.6823% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

France was Russia’s 8th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 7th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 3.2956% of Russia’s total imports (down from 3.6183% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to France

The major share of Russian exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 83.84% of Russia’s total exports to France (87.78% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.53% of Russia’s total exports to France (3.49% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.28% of Russia’s total exports to France (1.77% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.06% of Russia’s total exports to France (3.07% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.61% of Russia’s total exports to France (1.34% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $11,911,142;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $7,988,875;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $6,747,550.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to France in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $475,912,800;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $18,614,560;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $4,535,985.

Russia’s Imports from France

The major share of Russian imports from France in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 27.23% of Russia’s total imports from France (29.59% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.31% of Russia’s total imports from France (8.25% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.24% of Russia’s total imports from France (3.42% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.15% of Russia’s total imports from France (1.17% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
