Russia’s Trade with India

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with India totaled $2,534,195,327, up 5.26% ($126,544,206) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to India in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $1,532,761,101, down 4.28% ($68,478,855) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from India in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $1,001,434,226, up 24.18% ($195,023,061) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with India in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $531,326,875, a 33.15% decrease ($263,501,916) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

India was Russia’s 15th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 17th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.5278% of Russia’s total trade (up from 1.3992% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

India was Russia’s 14th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 18th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.4835% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.4272% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

India was Russia’s 16th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 19th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.6011% of Russia’s total imports (up from 1.3468% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to India

The major share of Russian exports to India in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 34.39% of Russia’s total exports to India (27.46% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 17.83% of Russia’s total exports to India (24.85% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.22% of Russia’s total exports to India (10.43% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 9.29% of Russia’s total exports to India (14.72% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.61% of Russia’s total exports to India (6.53% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.26% of Russia’s total exports to India (0.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.09% of Russia’s total exports to India (5.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to India in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $83,344,178;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $63,226,888;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $38,450,721;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $21,867,400;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $12,129,088;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $12,035,798;
  • Nickel and articles thereof (HS code 75) - an increase of $6,472,460;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $5,960,002.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to India in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $90,369,116;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $38,438,706;
