Russia’s Trade with Indonesia

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Indonesia totaled $648,704,704, up 11.72% ($68,069,050) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $241,595,533, up 48.52% ($78,927,643) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Indonesia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $407,109,171, down 2.60% ($10,858,593) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Indonesia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $165,513,638, a 35.17% decrease ($89,786,236) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Indonesia was Russia’s 42nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 44th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.3911% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3374% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Indonesia was Russia’s 55th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 69th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2338% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1450% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Indonesia was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 30th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.6509% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.6981% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Indonesia

The major share of Russian exports to Indonesia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 42.60% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (29.98% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.93% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (16.76% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 18.01% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (8.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 13.50% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (34.47% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.28% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (8.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.18% of Russia’s total exports to Indonesia (1.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $52,894,412;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $36,342,576;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $23,890,865;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $1,252,032;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $928,836;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $753,697;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $745,419.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Indonesia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $23,711,990;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $6,963,583;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $4,954,146;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $1,010,833;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - a decrease of $897,462.

Russia’s Imports from Indonesia

The major share of Russian imports from Indonesia in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 47.58% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (48.99% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 16.28% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (13.62% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.12% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (12.88% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.09% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (16.26% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.79% of Russia’s total imports from Indonesia (2.18% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
