Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Kenya was $91,240,450, down 15.38% ($16,583,964) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $72,525,310, up 2.15% ($1,528,228) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $18,715,140, down 49.18% ($18,112,192) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $53,810,170, a 57.48% increase ($19,640,420) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Kenya was Russia’s 85th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 84th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0550% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0627% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Kenya was Russia’s 82nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 83rd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0702% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0633% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Kenya was Russia’s 88th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 80th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0299% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0615% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 80.78% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (86.22% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.67% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (6.81% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.29% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (2.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.41% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (0.60% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.53% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (0.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.31% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (4.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $2,907,132;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $2,125,128;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $978,294.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,672,763;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,897,057.

Russia’s Imports from Kenya

The major share of Russian imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.31% of Russia’s total imports from Kenya (99.43% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $116,831;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $62,959.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $12,722,766;
  • Live trees and other plants; bulbs, roots and the like; cut flowers and ornamental foliage (HS code 06) - a decrease of $3,223,355;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $1,654,835;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $355,080;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $249,924;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - a decrease of $63,833.
