Russia’s Trade with Spain

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Spain was $1,428,536,908, down 6.51% ($99,518,801) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $618,836,799, down 2.35% ($14,874,906) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $809,700,109, down 9.46% ($84,643,895) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $190,863,310, a 26.77% decrease ($69,768,989) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Spain was Russia’s 22nd largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 23rd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.8612% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.8880% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Spain was Russia’s 36th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.5989% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.5648% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Spain was Russia’s 19th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 16th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.2945% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.4937% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Spain

The major share of Russian exports to Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 80.48% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (80.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 7.49% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (5.95% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.70% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (3.50% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.30% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (4.45% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.83% of Russia’s total exports to Spain (3.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $2,000,758;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,939,619;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,864,960.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Spain in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $10,281,947;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $8,297,823;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $6,961,337;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $5,453,907;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $3,399,340;
