Russia’s Trade with the US

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with the US was $6,222,394,571, down 1.02% ($64,404,663) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to the US in the 3rd quarter of 2019 were $3,211,920,494, down 6.79% ($234,121,477) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from the US in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $3,010,474,077, up 5.97% ($169,716,814) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with the US in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $201,446,417, a 66.72% decrease ($403,838,291) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

The US was Russia’s 7th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 3.7513% of Russia’s total trade (up from 3.6536% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The US was Russia’s 11th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (down from 10th in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 3.1086% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.0714% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The US was Russia’s 4th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 4.8130% of Russia’s total imports (up from 4.7445% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 49.51% of Russia’s total exports to the US (47.40% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 15.06% of Russia’s total exports to the US (8.76% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 14.88% of Russia’s total exports to the US (18.65% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.17% of Russia’s total exports to the US (14.79% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.10% of Russia’s total exports to the US (2.35% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.70% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.75% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).
