Russia’s Trade

In 2019, Russia’s trade was $666,558 million, down 3.13% ($21,557 million) from 2018.

Russia’s exports in 2019 were $422,777 million, down 6.04% ($27,187 million) from 2018.

Russia’s imports in 2019 totaled $243,781 million, up 2.36% ($5,629 million) from 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus in 2019 was $178,997 million, a 15.49% decrease ($32,816 million) over 2018.

Russia’s Exports

The major share of Russian exports in 2019 (and in 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 63.33% of Russia’s total exports (64.79% in 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.87% of Russia’s total exports (9.88% in 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.39% of Russia’s total exports (6.09% in 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.85% of Russia’s total exports (5.53% in 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.32% of Russia’s total exports (5.13% in 2018);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 3.61% of Russia’s total exports (2.24% in 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.02% of Russia’s total exports (3.10% in 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports in 2019 over 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $5,161 million.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports in 2019 over 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $24,262 million;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $5,217 million;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $2,536 million;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $1,608 million.
