Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $1,197,898,938, down 17.96% ($262,277,158) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $631,447,093, down 23.00% ($188,590,696) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $566,451,845, down 11.51% ($73,686,462) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $64,995,248, a 63.87% decrease ($114,904,234) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

Brazil was Russia’s 30th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 27th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.6660% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.7815% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Brazil was Russia’s 38th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 34th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.5646% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.6587% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Brazil was Russia’s 27th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 21st in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.8327% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.0268% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 81.30% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (82.15% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 11.28% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (14.45% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.12% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.54% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.38% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (0.04% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.41% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.32% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $12,032,009;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $5,932,246;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $4,923,936;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $2,022,943.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $159,581,766;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $30,658,332;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $16,635,107;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $2,743,099;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $2,554,538.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.88% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (4.96% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.52% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (29.01% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
