Russia’s Trade with Japan

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Japan was $4,912,096,420, down 8.48% ($454,933,377) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Japan in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $2,703,865,804, down 8.21% ($241,682,639) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Japan in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $2,208,230,616, down 8.81% ($213,250,738) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Japan in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $495,635,188, a 5.43% decrease ($28,431,901) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

Japan was Russia’s 12th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 10th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 2.7309% of Russia’s total trade (down from 2.8726% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Japan was Russia’s 12th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 13th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 2.4176% of Russia’s total exports (up from 2.3660% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Japan was Russia’s 7th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 6th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 3.2461% of Russia’s total imports (down from 3.8841% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Japan

The major share of Russian exports to Japan in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 72.78% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (74.38% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 9.91% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (6.22% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.82% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (6.36% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
