Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Malaysia totaled $762,204,501, up 0.66% ($4,993,839) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $258,669,608, down 17.59% ($55,193,298) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $503,534,893, up 13.58% ($60,187,137) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $244,865,285, a 89.11% increase ($115,380,435) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

Malaysia was Russia’s 44th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 42nd in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.4238% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.4053% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Malaysia was Russia’s 55th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 54th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2313% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2521% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Malaysia was Russia’s 28th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 30th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.7402% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.7111% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 88.01% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (77.22% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.57% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (10.57% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.66% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.85% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.00% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.98% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.72% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (5.45% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.34% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (2.66% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $4,197,078;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,781,209;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $2,034,100;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $1,205,741;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $987,851.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $23,516,562;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $19,197,364;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $15,278,461;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,777,391;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $2,697,375;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - a decrease of $2,092,633;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $1,758,357;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $934,145.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.46% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (11.82% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
