Russia’s Trade with New Zealand

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with New Zealand totaled $69,978,127, up 34.77% ($18,054,470) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $2,708,477, down 87.17% ($18,407,428) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $67,269,650, up 118.35% ($36,461,898) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $64,561,173, a 566.14% increase ($54,869,326) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

New Zealand was Russia’s 92nd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 104th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0389% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0278% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

New Zealand was Russia’s 134th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 111th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0024% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0170% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

New Zealand was Russia’s 70th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 84th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0989% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0494% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The major share of Russian exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $95,672;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $40,253;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $11,028;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $9,658.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to New Zealand in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $16,604,176;

  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $45,480;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $34,322;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $17,724;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - a decrease of $14,653;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $13,974.
