Russia’s Trade with Portugal

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Portugal was $213,150,501, down 40.53% ($145,270,316) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $58,732,948, down 73.76% ($165,109,645) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $154,417,553, up 14.74% ($19,839,329) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Portugal went from a surplus of $89,264,369 in the 4th quarter of 2018, to a deficit of $95,684,605 in the 4th quarter of 2019.

Portugal was Russia’s 71st largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 62nd in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1185% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1918% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Portugal was Russia’s 79th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 60th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0525% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1798% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Portugal was Russia’s 53rd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 54th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2270% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.2159% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Portugal

The major share of Russian exports to Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 60.80% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (90.44% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.01% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (2.90% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 9.50% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (2.56% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.19% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (3.00% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.30% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.45% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.14% of Russia’s total exports to Portugal (0.10% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $437,891;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $422,120;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $379,419;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $182,031.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $165,986,828;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,811,569;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,120,105;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $753,095;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - a decrease of $539,110;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $302,705.

Russia’s Imports from Portugal

The major share of Russian imports from Portugal in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.81% of Russia’s total imports from Portugal (16.08% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
