Russia’s Trade with Puerto Rico

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Puerto Rico totaled $95,090,747, up 54.08% ($33,376,566) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Puerto Rico in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $1,361,493, down 94.18% ($22,045,944) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Puerto Rico in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $93,729,254, up 144.68% ($55,422,510) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Puerto Rico in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $92,367,761, a 519.95% increase ($77,468,454) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

Puerto Rico was Russia’s 85th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 101st in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0529% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0330% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Puerto Rico was Russia’s 143rd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 108th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0012% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0188% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Puerto Rico was Russia’s 64th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 82nd in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1378% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0614% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The major share of Russian exports to Puerto Rico in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 30.92% of Russia’s total exports to Puerto Rico (0.00% in the 4th quarter of 2018);

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $168,691;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $26,043;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $17,706.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Puerto Rico in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $21,080,813;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,354,926;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $75,899.

Russia’s Imports from Puerto Rico

The major share of Russian imports from Puerto Rico in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 98.51% of Russia’s total imports from Puerto Rico (98.53% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.18% of Russia’s total imports from Puerto Rico (1.06% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Puerto Rico in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
