Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Vietnam was $1,303,815,571, down 36.31% ($743,472,629) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $308,368,252, down 72.78% ($824,318,175) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $995,447,319, up 8.84% ($80,845,546) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Vietnam went from a surplus of $218,084,654 in the 4th quarter of 2018, to a deficit of $687,079,067 in the 4th quarter of 2019.

Vietnam was Russia’s 29th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 21st in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.7249% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.0958% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Vietnam was Russia’s 52nd largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 23rd in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2757% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.9098% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Vietnam was Russia’s 17th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 16th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 1.4633% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.4670% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 47.62% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (8.28% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 15.58% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (10.54% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 14.49% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (6.05% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.01% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (4.38% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.83% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (56.28% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.96% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (0.78% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $42,006,635;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $11,573,365;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $4,022,319;
  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $2,736,798;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,437,081;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $1,763,601;
  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - an increase of $954,833.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $68,399,056;
