Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In 2019, Russia’s trade with Nigeria was $421,023,619, down 45.10% ($345,910,058) from 2018.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2019 were $376,643,900, down 48.67% ($357,094,541) from 2018.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2019 totaled $44,379,719, up 33.69% ($11,184,483) from 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in 2019 was $332,264,181, a 52.57% decrease ($368,279,024) over 2018.

Nigeria was Russia’s 81st largest trading partner in 2019 (down from 74th in 2018), accounting for 0.0632% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1115% in 2018).

Nigeria was Russia’s 75th largest export market in 2019 (down from 64th in 2018), accounting for 0.0891% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1631% in 2018).

Nigeria was Russia’s 95th largest supplier in 2019 (up from 99th in 2018), accounting for 0.0182% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0139% in 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in 2019 (and in 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 50.91% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (56.23% in 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 15.89% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (27.89% in 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.73% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.33% in 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.49% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (4.90% in 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.15% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (1.26% in 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.29% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (0.47% in 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2019 over 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $32,189,877;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $5,896,081;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $1,511,513;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,496,854;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $1,132,218.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in 2019 over 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $222,681,386;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $144,805,902;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,563,722;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $1,380,321.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

The major share of Russian imports from Nigeria in 2019 (and in 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.71% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (96.77% in 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.91% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (3.16% in 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2019 over 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $9,209,227;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $1,830,598;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $635,944.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in 2019 over 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
