Russia’s Trade with Argentina

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Argentina was $200,065,194, down 10.38% ($23,159,602) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $16,884,613, down 68.03% ($35,921,605) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $183,180,581, up 7.49% ($12,762,003) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $166,295,968, a 41.39% increase ($48,683,608) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Argentina was Russia’s 70th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 68th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1408% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1418% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Argentina was Russia’s 102nd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 84th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0190% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0506% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Argentina was Russia’s 44th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.3446% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3213% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Argentina

The major share of Russian exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 59.33% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (15.27% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 13.92% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (0.92% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 13.58% of Russia’s total exports to Argentina (2.17% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $372,826;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $64,307;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $62,354;

  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $52,105.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $40,277,965;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $1,772,552;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $757,769;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $315,194;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $274,290;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $143,310;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $105,479;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $56,617.

Russia’s Imports from Argentina

The major share of Russian imports from Argentina in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 89.16% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (91.32% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.28% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (5.07% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.32% of Russia’s total imports from Argentina (1.88% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
