Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Chile totaled $242,380,020, up 14.88% ($31,400,129) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $15,170,457, down 12.17% ($2,103,025) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $227,209,563, up 17.30% ($33,503,154) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $212,039,106, a 20.18% increase ($35,606,179) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Chile was Russia’s 66th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 69th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1705% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1340% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Chile was Russia’s 103rd largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 107th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0170% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0165% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Chile was Russia’s 39th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 42nd in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.4274% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3652% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 40.15% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (45.29% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 37.32% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (27.97% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.71% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (2.82% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.94% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (13.47% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.78% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (8.23% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.56% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (0.68% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $829,339;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $542,138;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $446,767;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $333,254;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $283,414;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $196,269;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $111,927;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $105,275;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - an increase of $81,392;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $48,708.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,952,250;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $1,397,791;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $879,426;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $294,637;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $269,752;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $222,035;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $75,838;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $66,493.

Russia’s Imports from Chile

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 73.47% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (84.48% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.99% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (3.01% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 7.37% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (7.90% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
