Russia’s Trade with Georgia

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Georgia totaled $267,467,389, up 0.42% ($1,115,062) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Georgia in the 1st quarter of 2020 totaled $187,985,660, up 20.89% ($32,480,668) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Georgia in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $79,481,729, down 28.30% ($31,365,606) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Georgia in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $108,503,931, a 142.97% increase ($63,846,274) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Georgia was Russia’s 62nd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1882% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1692% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Georgia was Russia’s 58th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (up from 64th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.2113% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1490% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Georgia was Russia’s 63rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 56th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.1495% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2090% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The major share of Russian exports to Georgia in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 33.50% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (35.33% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 33.30% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (22.37% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.92% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (14.15% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.46% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (13.17% in the 1st quarter of 2019);

  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $1,943,142;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,587,783;

  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $665,602;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Georgia in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $3,626,001;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,176,259;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $1,157,601;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $624,137.
