Russia’s Trade with Ghana

In the 1st quarter of 2020, Russia’s trade with Ghana was $34,990,857, down 35.95% ($19,637,811) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $21,233,890, down 34.86% ($11,363,820) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 were $13,756,967, down 37.56% ($8,273,991) from the 1st quarter of 2019.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 was $7,476,923, a 29.24% decrease ($3,089,829) over the 1st quarter of 2019.

Ghana was Russia’s 103rd largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 95th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0246% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0347% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Ghana was Russia’s 98th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 94th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0239% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0312% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Ghana was Russia’s 90th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2020 (down from 86th in the 1st quarter of 2019), accounting for 0.0259% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0415% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

Russia’s Exports to Ghana

The major share of Russian exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 57.59% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (34.71% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 20.34% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (8.03% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.01% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (50.04% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.60% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (1.40% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.97% of Russia’s total exports to Ghana (5.53% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,700,292;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $956,675;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $166,331;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $99,391;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $67,488.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $12,607,021;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $1,521,501;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $116,499;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $75,588.

The major share of Russian imports from Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 (and in the 1st quarter of 2019) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 96.15% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (98.87% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.00% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2019);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.81% of Russia’s total imports from Ghana (1.12% in the 1st quarter of 2019).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Ghana in the 1st quarter of 2020 over the 1st quarter of 2019 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - an increase of $412,396.
